“What if the task is simply to unfold, to become who you already are in your essential nature—gentle, compassionate, and capable of living fully and passionately present?” - Oriah Mountain Dreamer
It is helpful to recognize that all living things vibrate in order to understand how sound is used to facilitate healing. The cells of our bodies, the atoms that make up all living and inanimate objects all resonate. We know through the study of quantum physics that everything in the universe is made up of vibrational fields and so it makes sense that pulsation and sound can cause bodies to vibrate. The vibration, intentionally applied, allows the body to restore balance and re-connection to the fundamental vibration of the earth.
Why Use Sound?
Sound travels through our body very well, largely because we are primarily composed of water and elements very similar to those found in the Earth. We become ill when the harmony of our body is disrupted. Sound therapy is a helpful and effective complement to medicine and helps restore the balance and harmony of the body.
As a sound healer, I rely on drums, tuning forks, and native flute to support the individual's well-being. I do this through individual healing sessions, distance Reiki sessions, and drum circles.
Benefits of sound healing
Sound healing has many benefits including:
Tuning forks and awakening bell
20th Century composer John Cage heard the sound of his nervous system and blood in circulation sitting in an anechoic chamber at Harvard. Sound healing pioneer John Beaulieu repeated the experiment in 1974 and again in 2001 at the State University of New York. The latter published numerous findings about the application of tuning forks to the body. Forks tuned to frequencies matching these systems can be applied to the body to stimulate the body’s natural resonance, thus promoting healing. The tuning forks are placed on the body in positions similar to acupressure points and are used individually or in combination.
The awakening bell is specially crafted to produce frequencies that support deep relaxation. It can be played in the manner of a singing bowl or simply struck to produce a deep, rich, and long lasting tone.
